Ethnopharmacological relevanceViticis Fructus (called Manjingzi in China) is the dried ripe fruits of plant species Vitex trifolia subsp. litoralis Steenis and L. family Lamiaceae. Viticis has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine for thousands years to treat illness such colds, headache, vertigo, anesthesia, hyperkinesias. More chemical constituents medicinal effects have discovered with development modern technology.The aim review: This review aims analyze research progress from aspects botany, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacological activity, well provide an outlook on use prospects Fructus.Material methodsA comprehensive literature search using online databases Science Direct, CNKI, Wiley library, Spring Link, Web Science, PubMed, Wanfang Data SCI-Finder. In addition, information was obtained local foreign books ethnobotany ethnomedicine.ResultsThe application can be traced back around 480 AD. So far, more than 190 compounds isolated Fructus, including flavonoids, sterols, cyclic enol ether terpenoids, diterpenoids. Modern studies shown that extracts various effects, anti-allergic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial effects.ConclusionAs widely medicine, rich compositions obvious biological activity. However, activity not scientifically evaluated or convincing due poor methodology, unclear results lack clinical data. Systematic evaluations are needed verify its pharmaceutical therapeutic efficacy safety. As important herbal it should further explored facilitate new medicines treatments variety diseases.
